While ime panicled hydrangeas are quick to mature, i wouldn't expect flowers this season because most energy will be used to grow roots. From then on it was down hill. While many hydrangeas leave interesting flower heads late into the fall and through the early winter, some paniculata cultivars will not lose their flower heads.
Hydrangeas will tell you when they need water.
Pale lime green / green foliage color: Hydrangea paniculata 'limelight' holds onto flower heads well into spring as new growth emerges. I mulch them with prairie hay for the winter, but even if i planted this march while still dormant, this was my limelight's first season.
